Hair Types and How to Care for Them Properly

Why knowing your hair type changes everything

Hair care goes beyond using a fancy shampoo or following TikTok hair trends. If you truly want your hair to look healthy, strong, and vibrant, you need to start by understanding your hair type. This simple step changes everything: the products you choose, how you apply them, how often you wash your hair, and even the type of comb you use.

At Radhe Shyam, we have been manufacturers and distributors of natural cosmetics for over 40 years. We have worked with all hair types and have seen it time and again: when you use products specifically for your hair type and commit to an appropriate routine, the results are spectacular.

Hair type classification: from 1a to 4c

The most useful and visual classification divides hair into four main types (1 to 4), each with three subcategories (a, b, c) according to the degree of shape or curl:

  • Type 1 (Straight): Has no wave or curl pattern. It ranges from very fine and shiny straight (1a) to thick, voluminous straight (1c).

  • Type 2 (Wavy): Forms more or less defined "S" waves. 2a is barely noticeable, 2c is almost curly.

  • Type 3 (Curly): Has well-defined spiral curls. 3a is loose and large, 3c is tighter and more compact.

  • Type 4 (Afro/Kinky): Very tight curls, with a "Z" pattern. 4a is defined, 4c is denser and less elastic.

This classification is useful not only for identifying hair but also for adapting routines and products that truly work.

How to find out your hair type

Here's a very effective home method:

  1. Wash your hair with shampoo only (no conditioner, no oils).
  2. Let it air dry, without combing or manipulating it.
  3. Observe the shape and texture:
    • No wave? Type 1.
    • S-shaped waves? Type 2.
    • Curls or spirals? Type 3.
    • Tight curls or Z-pattern? Type 4.

You can also look at:

  • Texture: Fine, medium, or coarse?
  • Porosity: Does it absorb water quickly or repel it?
  • Shrinkage: Types 3 and 4 shrink a lot when dry.

Conscious care: Radhe Shyam's vision

As second-generation manufacturers and distributors of natural cosmetics, at Radhe Shyam, we have witnessed the transformative power of a tailored hair routine. And we say with certainty: nature has everything your hair needs.

Our favorite ingredients:

  • Aloe vera: soothes and balances the scalp.
  • Rosemary: stimulates growth and regulates oil.
  • Shea and avocado: nourish and repair without chemicals.

The key is to choose honest products, adapted to your hair type, and committed to your hair health.

Conclusion: love your hair type, respect it, and you'll see the difference

Every hair type is unique and has its own beauty. There is no "better" type than another. The real secret is to understand it, accept it, and care for it consciously.

Using natural products, respecting its shape, and designing a routine according to its needs will make a big difference. At Radhe Shyam, that has been our philosophy for over four decades: respecting the nature of hair and working with it, not against it.
